Siddhartha Quotation

“ Most of all, he learned from it to listen, to pay close attention with a quiet heart, with a waiting, opened soul, without passion, without a wish, without a judgment, without an opinion.”

This passage describes the key factors for being a good listener. To be a good listener, one should have patience and have to be a very good observer. As well as a listener should listen without any kind of judgment, opinion or biasness. In the story, Siddhartha, eventually with the guidance of Vasudeva, is able to listen to the river that has been telling many things by through his heart clear.

I chose this passage because it shows us how to be a good listener that I think we all need in this century where people do not listen to each other and are in a rush all the time. People are so impatient that they do not think or try to listen patiently and they just make judgment or come to the conclusion without getting into the depth. So, applying this technique in each individual’s life, one will be able to connect with other people and will develop patience which would create very good understanding among individuals. Also it is very important in our job too, especially as a psychiatrist, nurse, doctors and other profession.

  1. Kajal,

I agree with you that we all need to listen and pay attention to what is said to us. We sometimes become so impatient that we often think that the person is talking to much or the information they are offering doesn't refer me. I honestly admit I'm sometimes like that, but in life we have to be good listeners and connect with people because they may have important information to share with us.

  2. Hello Kajal,
Your response to the quote you choose was will done; and yes people do need to listen more in life. Being a great listener is a great quality to have in general. I believe once a person really stops and listen, then he/she then becomes a better and clearer thinker. If people were to listen more, things in this world would be much different.

  3. Hi kajal
Listening is an energetic practice that man should be enthusiastic about. It does not mean merely sitting soundless and glaring at someone. To be effective in understanding another's viewpoint and aiding them through a challenging time, you need to do things which show attentiveness and sincere apprehension. This is what effective communication is about.
Effective communication, however, is one of the bases to building resilience and maintaining balance in your life. It is the way in which we understand others and the way in which we attempt to get other people to understand and know us. If we do not communicate clearly and directly with others, we will not understand and we will not be understood. And without good listening there would not be an effective communication .hence I agree with your interpretation
